PEIF Fund Mentee Receives Scholarship to Attend ICNC Summer Institute in Massachusetts, USA
PEIF Fund Mentee, Hillary Maduka, is attending the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC) Summer Institute in Massachusetts having received a scholarship that covers all of his expenses for the trip. The ICNC Summer Institute is a world-class professional education program focusing on the advanced, interdisciplinary study of civil resistance. It takes place at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Entry into the ICNC Summer Institute is quite competitive. Hillary applied to the Institute to gain knowledge of how civil resistance movements organize themselves, how they build coalitions across organizations, groups and populations, and how they communicate and negotiate their goals with the end result of ensuring positive change and the enthronement of the will of the people in Nigeria.
Currently a final year LL.B. Candidate at the University of Jos, Nigeria, Hillary intends to build a career in Human Rights Advocacy. The knowledge and skills from this program will give him the necessary skills to be more effective in advocacy, especially in his work protecting the civil rights of others, including the rights of children and women.
Hillary intends to incorporate knowledge gained into his work as a Community Youth Leader and Organizer, and subsequently in his professional career as a Lawyer and Human Rights Activist. Hillary will write a short article for the ICNC Summer Institute blog on Countering Violent Extremism.
PEIF Fund CEO, Dr. Iyioha, who is Hillary’s mentor, expressed delight at his achievement. According to Dr. Iyioha, “Hillary’s achievement is a reflection of his hard work and dedication to the causes he cares about.”
She added, “I am confident that this program will strengthen his research and advocacy in human rights, especially for vulnerable groups, including children and women.”
Dr. Iyioha has worked closely with Hillary on networking and harnessing his experience at this important event towards greater professional growth.
