Dr. Mahdi Hajiaghayi is currently a Data Analyst with Microsoft, USA. Prior to joining Microsoft, he worked in the Data intelligence group at Samsung Electronic. He held a post-doc position at the University of California, Irvine at the Center for Pervasive Communication and Computing (CPCC) from October 2012 to March 2014. He received his PhD in communication systems and wireless networks from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at the University of Toronto in August 2012. He completed a summer internship at TELUS, a Canadian telecom operator, collaborating on the SAVI (Smart Application on Virtual Network) project - a project that focuses on the challenges and opportunities that mobility enables in the context of cloud computing. He was a strategic intern in the radio system lab at Nokia research center (NRC), Helsinki, Finland from August to December 2011. He worked with the LTE standardization group, particularly on the subject of device-to-device communication. Dr. Mahdi completed his Masters program in wireless communication at the ECE department of the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada from 2005 to 2007. Prior to that, he received his bachelors degrees in Electrical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering, both from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in August 2005. Dr. Mahdi has served as a member of Engineers Without Borders (University of Toronto branch) and a previous member of the Mechatronic Design Association (MDA) at the University of Toronto whose goal was to design an autonomous submarine and take part in the international competition held in San Diego (AUVSI). Dr. Mahdi is the recipient of several academic awards from both Canada, the USA and Iran, including the DCA Scholarship and the Ted Rogers Fellowship Award, both from the University of Toronto. He is also a multi-award winning tennis player.
